Question: How do I find a therapist?

Answer:

One of the best ways to find a therapist is to get a recommendation from a trusted friend or relative who has worked with a particular therapist. As in all fields, some therapists are better than others, and the match between therapist and patient or client is important.

Your family doctor can also usually recommend a good therapist. He or she probably has a good idea of who has a good reputation, and who has done good work in the past.

As a last resort you can look in the yellow pages in the phone book, or in various Online therapist directories. In the U.S. your insurance company usually has a panel of "preferred" therapists that they can recommend to you. Often they will provide you with the names of three therapists.
